Glass


One of the biggest advantages of glass is that it’s highly recyclable. Plastic on the other hand, loses its integrity after some time and cannot be recycled.  
Furthermore, glass doesn’t require as much energy to manufacture since it’s made of natural materials which include soda ash, limestone and sand.
However, it does have a few disadvantages as well. For example, glass is comparatively heavier. It’s also a lot tougher to transport glass products since they are fragile and can break on impact.
Some people also argue that glass is unsafe because you might cut yourself in case it’s broken. In some cases, it can also be life threatening.
One area where glass trumps plastic though is sanitization. Plastic deteriorates over time and becomes hazardous to health. This is not a problem with glass, which is sanitized at a high temperature.

Plastic

The harmful effects of plastic on the environment are well documented. It’s non-biodegradable and leeches dangerous chemicals in the soil. It’s also hazardous for aquatic life.
However, unlike glass, plastic is lighter. Manufacturers don’t need too many raw materials to manufacture plastic which is also why it’s used so excessively.
